About Me

Bernard is an emerging nurse scientist with academic and professional affiliations spanning Ghana, Canada, and the United States. He brings extensive clinical and research experience in global health, with a particular focus on addressing chronic disease inequities through a transnational lens. Currently a doctoral student at Yale University, Bernard's research centers on mitigating the global burden of cardiometabolic syndrome. His specific area of inquiry examines the cultural influences on sleep quality and diabetes self-management among adults living with type 2 diabetes (T2D), with an emphasis on populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

His academic interests are grounded in a critical understanding of the disproportionate impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on underserved populations. In LMICs including his native Ghana health disparities are compounded by under-resourced healthcare systems, limited access to care, and unique socio-environmental determinants. Drawing on his cross-contextual experiences within the Canadian healthcare system and advanced training in the United States, Bernard is committed to advancing culturally responsive, context-specific interventions that enhance equity in chronic disease prevention and management on a global scale.

Research Experience

5+ years in healthcare research

Research Highlights

My research integrates advanced statistical methodologies, epidemiological principles, and behavioral science to explore how sleep, a modifiable yet understudied risk factor, interacts with metabolic dysregulation in T2D.

Sleep Disturbances

Investigating how sleep quality and duration affect metabolic regulation and cardiovascular health.

Scalable Interventions

Developing cost-effective interventions that can be implemented in resource-limited settings.

Global Health Equity

Addressing disparities in cardiometabolic health outcomes across different populations.

Diabetes Management

Exploring innovative approaches to improve glycemic control and reduce complications.
